Hi There.
It’s me Jake. Comedian, Jake Johannsen. It’s been a while. I’ve been quite busy with non show business but I’m getting back to it now and I’m also going to start this little writing project. The plan is to send you a little bit of my work every other week or so and update you on my tour schedule (see below for that) at the same time.
We had a longer pandemic here in California and I have to admit I was a jealous at times of those naughty Floridians getting back to the good times after only a few months. As a result of our protracted time in the hole (home) I had to get my stage legs back which took a while and felt in some ways like starting comedy over. That’s done now and I’ve got a lot to say onstage. Also on the bright side none of my family got very sick or died.
Right as California came out of lockdown my wife did get cancer and that was a shitshow. She’s in remission now so I can get back out on the road a little (see below). It was a revelation to me once cancer was in our lives how many other people have had some cancer in their lives. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot of cancer. Up until my wife got sick I had thought I understood the expression “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.” It means it’s bad but I up til cancer I always thought fuck that hypothetical guy. He’s my worst enemy. But now I get it. Something can be so awful that you wouldn’t wish it on the most awful person you can think of. Except of course Hitler but he’s already dead.
As my wife says, “Shit happens. That happened.” Now we’ve had some cancer in our lives. One thing you get with a life threatening situation is a lesson in appreciation for what you are grateful for. Friends, family and in my case my connection with all of you. We are here for a good time not a long time.
As always I would like to thank you all for your love and support. I can’t wait to see you at a show (see below). I am looking forward to connecting here with my blog. Also I am posting short videos of my standup on Instagram and Facebook. Plus go live on Facebook Tuesday and Friday with some exceptions. Let’s make the most of this.
Love and thanks,
Jake Johannsen
